To what do you owe your success?
My amazing intellect and wit.
Have you prepared for being away from your Philadelphia teams?
No. I think I’ll both miss and long for the Flyers a lot more than the Eagles, but I can’t anticipate where or when I’ll be when they are playing. Maybe I’ll watch a game; maybe I’ll feel like it, maybe I won't. If I really want to do it, I’ll find a way to do it. I really hope that stuff will melt into the background a little bit.
What are some of the things you’re looking forward to on this trip?
I’m looking forward to unstructured time and focused creative energy or focusing my creativity on the things I want to work on.
Do you have an adventure soundtrack picked out yet?
No. I haven’t thought about that. It will probably rock the 90’s though.
Now that you’re preparing to leave work at PBJS, the company that you moved across the country to work for and have been with for more than 11 years, is there anything that sticks out in your mind as you go into your last week of work at the office?
Talking to a lot of people about traveling and what I’m doing, their reactions have been positive and supportive. It’s nice working with and having good experiences with working with nice, smart people.
The two biggest points of stress before leaving was quitting our jobs. Or the biggest points of stress for each of us was quitting our jobs. You just don’t know how people are going to react and the overwhelming response has been positive. Everyone has been 100% positive about it.
It’s nice to know you’ll be missed and that you’ve done a good job and people like working with you.
What’s the greatest amount of time you’ve spent outside of the U.S. and what did you learn from that?
Five weeks in Europe, but 17 days of that was my internship at Cannes, not that that was hard or anything, I just wasn’t traveling around the whole time. I actually had job while I was there.
I learned to travel light and be flexible. Rolling a bag around Switzerland- up hills- it wasn’t very smart. Meeting other travelers whose schedule or destination aligns with yours, you can go out to dinner or visit tourist attractions together.
Don’t be afraid to make a three-day friend.
Are you bringing your nunchakus with you?
Yes. My practice ones.
